The country celebrates Norway’s Constitution, whose signature triggered a cascade of events that culminated in independence. In a typical Norwegian way, the celebrations are dedicated to the country’s future: its children.
Every year, on the 17th of May, Norway sheds its working clothes, dons its festive traditional garb and allows the Norwegian flag to come out of every nook and cranny. It is the national, universal, whole day celebration marking the signature of the Norwegian Constitution. It started off as a spontaneous party amongst students, and it is now a day dedicated to the children; the whole country is a mass of parades, with music, ice cream and cake, everyone dressed in their regional traditional costumes, an unforgettable day dedicated to the country’s children. Once witnessed it cannot ever be forgotten.
